The XII Barbudo Sky Race took place on Sunday, 18 October, in the Sierra de El Carche Regional Park in Jumilla, Murcia. The final round of the Copa de España de carreras por montaña closed the national season, with several hundred athletes taking part. The programme covered absolute races alongside the cadet and junior events, as well as starts for athletes with visual impairments. It also featured the Origen race over 22 kilometres and the 14-kilometre Promo event. The Federación Andaluza de Deportes de Montaña, Escalada y Senderismo published the Andalusian results on Monday 19 October.

Andalusia’s strongest age-group results came in the cadet races. Lucas Gámez Zea of CEM-Marbella won the boys’ event in 57:29. Mattie Yáñez Walkley of CM Cerro del Caballo took the girls’ title in 1:10:34.

Andalusians also won medals in the senior overall standings. Diego Benítez Cordero, representing GM Alpino Benalmádena, finished ninth in the men’s race in 3:29:14 and secured bronze in the final overall classification. Jose Ángel Fernández Jiménez ‘Canales’ of Club Atletismo Sierra Segura placed eighth in 3:25:12.

The cadet podiums also shaped the final standings. Carmen Castillo Peña of CD Werun came fifth in the girls’ race in 1:21:28, earning bronze in the final cadet classification. Martina Cruz Luque of CD Media Legua Baena was fourth in 1:19:58. In the boys’ race, Pablo Pérez Gómez of CD Fuente del Acebuche took second in 58:23.

Other Andalusian finishers included Lucas Milla Bendezú of CD Media Legua Baena, sixth in the boys’ cadet race, and José Alberto Fernández Tomé of CD Fuente del Acebuche, tenth. Daniel Francisco López Molina of CM Cerro del Caballo placed fourth in the junior boys’ event. Aroa Fernández Campoy of CD Los Saltabojas finished second among junior girls.

The 22-kilometre race also decided the under-23 Cup title. Aníbal Navarro, representing Tragamillas Alcañiz and Team Gozalvo, won the distance in just under 2 hours 13 minutes and secured the national sub-23 title. He won at the Jumilla final near the Jumsal mine area and the Sierra del Carche.

Javier Gutiérrez’s race win was separate from the Cup title. Madrid runner Jose Antonio Bellido won the Copa de España and finished fifth in Jumilla in 3:16:54. A separate Sohrlin management report covered a cultural venue, not mountain sport.
