Antena 3 pulled ahead in Sunday’s TV ratings, with El Secreto debuting as the most-watched fiction in over a year and Una nueva vida setting a new audience record. News and entertainment shows also topped their slots.
Antena 3 dominated Spanish television on Sunday, taking the lead in every major time slot and leaving other networks far behind. The channel’s prime time lineup started with the debut of El Secreto, which drew a 12.5% share and an average of 1.1 million viewers. It was the most-watched fiction premiere on private channels in more than a year. Right after, Una nueva vida set a new personal best, reaching a 16.2% share and beating its closest competitors by more than 10 points.
The strong results continued throughout the day. Antena 3 finished with a 10.9% total daily audience share—4.5 points ahead of its nearest private rival and 1.2 points above the public broadcaster. The channel led during sobremesa (16.3%), afternoon (9.2%), and late night (13.9%), making it the most-watched channel across the schedule.
According to Kantar Media, Antena 3 has consistently led the Spanish television market for over 30 consecutive months, marking one of the longest leadership streaks in recent industry history.
News was a key part of this performance. Antena 3 Noticias 1 Fin de Semana led the midday news with an average of 1.9 million viewers and a 20.7% share, outpacing its nearest competitors by 12.8 and 8.3 points. In the evening, Antena 3 Noticias 2, anchored by Matías Prats and Mónica Carrillo, stayed ahead with 1.3 million viewers and a 13.6% share.
Entertainment also played a major role. La ruleta de la suerte, hosted by Jorge Fernández and Laura Moure, ended the week undefeated with a 17.7% share and 1.3 million average viewers. The show captured the 'minuto de oro', the most-watched minute of the day. The Multicine film Una rosa para su tumba led its slot with 1.1 million viewers and a 12.1% share, while Juicio a la verdad kept Antena 3 ahead in the afternoon with a 9.5% share.
Sociological studies cited by El País indicate that Antena 3's audience growth is partly driven by its investment in original Spanish fiction and a strategic focus on family-friendly programming, which has resonated strongly with viewers since 2022. This approach has helped the network outperform rivals in both urban and rural markets, according to recent audience segmentation data.
Atresmedia, the parent company, consolidated its lead with a 23.1% share, outperforming its main competitor by 2.3 points despite having one fewer channel. laSexta also started the new season of Salvados with Gonzo on a strong note, leading its slot and beating its direct rival. The two-part special on Rita Barberá drew an average of 595,000 viewers, with each segment attracting over a million unique viewers.
The numbers show a clear pattern: Antena 3’s programming is not just winning individual time slots but setting new standards for audience engagement. The network’s mix of popular fiction, reliable news, and entertainment has created a formula that other channels have not matched. This stands out compared to the more mixed results seen in other parts of Spanish media, such as recent sports coverage.
Antena 3’s Sunday results reflect a long-term investment in content that connects with viewers. Its steady leadership in news and entertainment, along with record-breaking premieres, shows a clear shift in Spanish television. For competitors, the gap is now even wider. The weekend’s numbers make it clear who is setting the pace in Spanish broadcasting.
