The authorities of Andalusia are preparing to launch a new tax deduction scheme aimed at those who care for pets. As early as next year, residents of the region will be able to reclaim part of the money spent on veterinary services. For families who decide to acquire a pet, the scheme provides for a refund of up to 30% of treatment and preventive care costs, but no more than 100 euros during the first year after purchase.
If the animal is adopted from a shelter, the benefit period increases to three years. In specific cases, such as guide dogs, assistance animals for people with disabilities, or animals that support victims of violence, tax support will apply throughout the pet’s lifetime. Importantly, this right can be used immediately, regardless of when the four-legged friend was adopted or purchased.
According to preliminary estimates, about 182,000 residents of Andalusia will be able to benefit from this new initiative. The total annual savings for pet owners are expected to reach around 12 million euros. Regional authorities emphasize that this measure will not only support household budgets, but also encourage responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
The introduction of tax relief for pet owners has become part of a broader program to reduce the tax burden in Andalusia. In recent years, the region has reviewed its tax policy several times, and now total savings for residents have reached one billion euros per year. According to the regional authorities, the new initiative will make pet ownership easier and more affordable for thousands of families.
