Eric Clapton Concert in Madrid Interrupted After Fan Incident. Eric Clapton's concert in Madrid ended prematurely due to an incident on stage. A fan threw a vinyl record, prompting the musician to forgo the final encore. The event sparked discussion among the audience.

Eric Clapton's evening concert at Madrid's Movistar Arena ended unexpectedly: the musician left the stage without the traditional encore after an audience member threw a vinyl record onto the stage. The incident occurred as the artist was already heading backstage after performing “Cocaine”. According to organizers, the object struck Clapton, who is 81, and although the blow was not strong, the musician’s mood was spoiled — he refused to return for the final number.

Incident on Stage

As reported by EL PAÍS, the fan, presumably from Argentina, attached a note with a message for the artist to the record. However, the attempt to give this gift disrupted the finale: after a brief pause, Clapton signaled to the musicians that the show was over and left the venue. As a result, the audience did not hear the much-anticipated version of “Before You Accuse Me”, which usually closes the musician’s European tours.

Shortened Setlist

Clapton's concert in Madrid was already shorter than those in other cities: instead of 15 songs as in Budapest, only 13 were performed. The total performance time was about one hour and twenty minutes. Despite this, the venue was packed — around 15,000 people, mostly adults, but also some younger fans and families with children.

Musical Part

At the beginning of the evening, Clapton appeared on stage in a formal suit and immediately took charge, performing “Badge” and “Key to the Highway”. The setlist revolved around classic blues compositions, including “Hoochie Coochie Man” and “I Shot The Sheriff”. The acoustic segment featured “Kind Hearted Woman Blues” and “Layla”, with an emotional rendition of “Tears in Heaven” as the climax. After returning to the electric guitar, the musician played several more tracks, including “Cross Road Blues” and “Little Queen of Spades”, giving other band members a chance to shine.

Public reaction

After the concert, the audience discussed what had happened and expressed disappointment over the lack of a final encore. For many, this was the first opportunity to see the blues legend in Spain in the past twenty years. Organizers reminded everyone that throwing objects on stage is unacceptable, even if it is an attempt to show appreciation for the artist.
