A 41-year-old man was arrested and a 39-year-old man investigated after an Ertzaintza search in Iurreta. Officers found cannabis and four air rifles, along with more than €7,000 in cash.

The search began after officers responded to a disturbance shortly before 4pm on Thursday, 22 October, in a garden area of Iurreta, Bizkaia. During an initial inspection of a tool shed, they saw marijuana plant branches hanging on a wall.

The Ertzaintza then searched several sheds. Officers found 1.7kg of cannabis buds and 2.2kg of chopped cannabis, a combined total of approximately 3.9kg. They also seized 40 grams of amphetamine sulphate, known as speed, and 10 pink tablets.

More than €7,000 in cash was found alongside weighing equipment. The search also uncovered four compressed-air rifles and ammunition for them.

The huerta’s 41-year-old owner, a Spanish national, was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking. A second Spanish man, aged 39, was investigated for the same offence after arriving before the search. Police said part of the cannabis allegedly belonged to him. He had five previous arrests.

The case is separate from the Madrid teacher investigation, which concerned allegations involving nine minors.

The arrested man was taken to Ertzaintza premises for formal procedures and appeared before a court on Friday, 23 October, after those procedures were completed. Europa Press reported the arrest and investigation on 24 October, attributing the details to the Ertzaintza.
