A 56-year-old man was arrested after more than 14 hours inside a home in La Campana. His 47-year-old partner died after being stabbed, and investigators are examining possible gender-based violence.
The fatal assault took place at about 22:40 on Saturday in La Campana, a municipality in Sevilla province. A 47-year-old woman suffered several stab wounds and was taken to a health centre. She died at about 23:30. One report gave the time as approximately 23:28.
Her alleged attacker was her 56-year-old partner. Reports from Europa Press and other Spanish outlets identified the location as La Campana in Sevilla.
The man then stayed inside the property for more than 14 hours. The Guardia Civil brought in specialist officers and opened negotiations. Police worked through the night.
It took until Sunday.
Authorities said the detained man had also suffered serious self-inflicted injuries and remained in custody under medical observation after the arrest.
A broad police operation was set up around the home. Specialist personnel handled the mediation before officers detained the suspect at about noon on Sunday. The standoff lasted more than 14 hours.
The woman's death may also enter Spain's gender violence records. If investigators confirm that classification, the number of women murdered by gender violence would rise to 39 in 2026 and to 1,380 since records began in 2003. The figures come from data cited from Spain's Ministry of Equality.
