One of the most intense matches of the season has ended in Madrid: Leyma Coruña snatched a victory from Estudiantes in overtime and returned to the ACB League. Five minutes before the end of regulation, the hosts led by 13 points, but the visitors from Galicia put together an impressive 16:3 run and took the game to overtime.
In the extra five minutes, Leyma Coruña not only kept up the pace but also managed to execute key plays thanks to precise actions by Jorgensen and Pacheco. The final score of 97:100 secured the team's return to the top division of Spanish basketball a year after relegation.
This match became one of the most talked-about events in Spanish basketball in recent years. According to RUSSPAIN, such comebacks in promotion games to ACB are extremely rare, which only added to the excitement of the clash. Attention to the final was comparable to the interest typically seen for major football events: previously, for example, the Spain national team roster for the 2026 World Cup also sparked widespread discussion among fans.
For Leyma Coruña, this success means not only a return to the elite but also new opportunities for the club and the city. In the 2026/27 season, the team will again compete among the best, and fans will have the chance to watch matches featuring top Spanish clubs. Such comebacks after relegation are rare in ACB history, highlighting the significance of this result for Galician basketball.
Estudiantes, despite having the advantage in the final minutes, failed to hold on for the win and missed the chance for promotion. Leyma Coruña, on the other hand, showed character and composure at the crucial moments, which proved to be the key factor in their ultimate success.
