Geely has launched the Monjaro EM-i, its largest SUV and first plug-in hybrid in the D segment. With a 1.5 turbo engine, two electric motors, and a 40 kWh battery, it claims up to 170 km electric range and over 1,100 km total driving distance.
Geely has just raised the stakes in the D-segment SUV market. The Monjaro EM-i, a plug-in hybrid, is now the brand’s biggest and most advanced SUV. It’s Geely’s first large plug-in hybrid. The numbers are bold: up to 170 kilometers on electric power and more than 1,100 kilometers total range.
But the Monjaro EM-i isn’t a ground-up new model. It’s actually an export version of the Geely Xingyue L, which has been built in China since 2021. This SUV is already on sale in Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. Industry sources confirm the Monjaro EM-i is an international spin on a proven platform.
The Monjaro EM-i is Geely’s first export model to feature an electric all-wheel-drive system powered by two electric motors.
The look is a sharp break from Geely’s older, softer designs. The Monjaro EM-i stands out with straight lines and a big chrome grille. Oversized headlights give the front a strong, unmistakable face. Inside, tech takes over. There’s a 15.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a huge 25.6-inch central display. The cabin mixes classic shapes with modern luxury. Crystal-finished controls on the center console feel solid in the hand. The seats, covered in suede-like material, offer massage, ventilation, and heating up front. Rear seats are heated too.
Underneath, the Monjaro EM-i rides on Geely’s GEA-Evo platform. This architecture was built for new energy vehicles from the start. It gives designers more space to work with and supports different powertrains. The GEEA 3.0 electronic system brings smarter driving features and more safety. The result is a roomy, comfortable SUV packed with tech.
Moniteur Automobile lists the Monjaro EM-i at about 4.80 meters long, 1.895 meters wide, and 1.70 meters tall. The hybrid setup pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with two electric motors. Total output: 305 kW, or 409 horsepower. But Geely hasn’t released final European WLTP-certified specs for power, battery, or range. Numbers from other markets might not match what Europe gets.
For one export version, the Monjaro EM-i is reported to offer a 29.8 kWh battery, up to 130 km of electric range, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.8 seconds, and a total range of up to 1,100 km. These figures may vary depending on the test cycle and market, and official European data is still pending.
The EM-i Super Hybrid system uses a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder, two electric motors, and a battery up to 40 kWh. Geely says this setup lets the Monjaro EM-i drive up to 170 kilometers on electric power alone (WLTP standard). Total range reaches 1,137 kilometers. The battery supports V2L and V2V charging with up to 6.6 kW output. That means the SUV can power outside devices or even charge another car.
Geely’s push into Spain has been fast. In under a year, the brand launched the E2, E5, and Starray EM-i. But until now, there was no true flagship. The Monjaro EM-i fills that spot. It puts Geely in the fight for buyers who want size, range, and tech. This launch follows the arrival of other Chinese SUVs, like the Zeekr 9X, which also went after Europe’s big names with strong specs and sharp pricing.
For Spanish drivers thinking about switching to a hybrid SUV, the Monjaro EM-i brings long range, advanced interior tech, and flexible charging. It sets a new standard for Chinese imports. The model will debut at the Paris Motor Show. That’s the real test for Geely’s European plans. But the specs alone show the Monjaro EM-i isn’t here to follow. It’s a direct challenge. If Geely delivers, this SUV could quickly become the new benchmark for plug-in hybrids in Europe.
