Moreno Defends Healthcare Spending and Accuses Opposition of Distorting Facts. Andalusian President Juan Manuel Moreno stated that his government is committed to funding healthcare and education. He called the opposition's accusations false and urged Malaga residents to support his party in the elections.
A new stage of political struggle over healthcare and other social funding has erupted in Andalusia. Speaking in Malaga, the region’s president, Juan Manuel Moreno, strongly rejected opposition accusations that the healthcare situation is deteriorating. According to him, it is the current government that ensures stable investment in key public services, despite pressure and criticism from competitors.
Betting on Malaga
Moreno began his visit in the city of Alhaurín el Grande, where his family lives and where he grew up. This municipality was one of the main bastions for his party in the previous elections, and now the regional leader is again relying on the support of Malaga’s residents. In 2022, Moreno’s party received the highest number of votes here among cities with populations over 20,000.
During his meeting with residents and relatives, Moreno emphasized that the opposition’s campaign is built on false claims. He stated that the accusations against the government are a “campaign of lies” and that repeating such statements does not make them true. According to him, the regional authorities have allocated significant funds to healthcare, education, and support for dependent citizens, confirming their commitment to developing social services.
Financial priorities and taxes
The President of Andalusia also noted that the increase in social sector investment became possible thanks to a policy of tax cuts and the rejection of ideas such as expropriating second homes. Moreno stressed that without additional financial resources, the public services system cannot operate effectively. He called for abandoning an ideology that involves forced redistribution of property and focusing instead on creating conditions for sustainable funding of healthcare and education.
Risks for the Majority
In this electoral cycle, Malaga remains a key region for maintaining a majority in the Andalusian parliament. According to the latest data, Moreno's party may lose one or two seats in this district, adding further intrigue ahead of the vote. The president himself warned that several seats in parliament remain uncertain, and that the final power balance depends on voter turnout.
To mobilize his supporters, Moreno once again raised the issue of relations with the central government. He reminded that negotiations will soon begin on granting Catalonia full control over tax revenues, which, in his view, could undermine the principle of equality among regions. The president urged the people of Malaga to come to the polls to prevent Andalusia's interests from being undermined.
Next Steps and Context
After his visit to Alhaurín el Grande, Moreno plans to meet with representatives of the sports community in Fuengirola and conclude the day with a rally in Torremolinos. Key figures from the party's regional branch, including Elías Bendodo and Carolina España, will take part in the event.
Funding for healthcare and social services remains one of the most pressing issues in the region. As previously noted in the article on the conflict between Andalusian doctors and Madrid, disagreements over budget allocation and reforms continue to create tensions between the regions and the central government.
