Conflict Escalates in Movimiento Sumar: Key Figures Resign from Leadership. Two members of the Movimiento Sumar leadership have resigned amid criticism and an ongoing investigation. The party’s future is now in question as pressure mounts and internal tensions rise.

A new wave of internal crisis has erupted within Movimiento Sumar: two executive members — Organization Secretary Laura Moreno and Communications Head David Comas — have announced their resignation. The decision comes amid sharp criticism of coordinator Lara Hernández and escalating disputes within the party. As noted by EL PAÍS, the situation in Movimiento Sumar remains extremely tense, and the party structure appears vulnerable.

According to sources, Moreno and Comas's resignation was accompanied by accusations against the leadership. In her farewell letter to the executive body, Moreno raised questions about Lara Hernández's actions and reported an internal investigation over alleged workplace harassment involving five employees — two political and three technical staff members. Moreno also alleged “fraud” in the process of forming the party’s branch in Valencia.

The party's future is expected to be decided in the coming days: on Thursday, the highest coordinating body will vote on holding the third assembly in three years. The preliminary date is set for July 11. Since Lara Hernández and Carlos Martín were elected in March 2025, and Martín subsequently resigned in August of the same year, the party has not appointed a second coordinator, despite statutes requiring joint leadership.

The crisis within Movimiento Sumar has coincided with a difficult period for Spain's left-wing forces: against the backdrop of corruption scandals surrounding the PSOE and uncertainty about forming a new coalition for the next elections, the question of leadership and the composition of the united bloc remains open. At the same time, as the experience of other organizations shows, a change in leadership can be a turning point — for example, at Fundación Mobile World Capital, after a reshuffle, a new director was appointed in Barcelona and this led to significant changes in the work of the foundation.

For reference: Movimiento Sumar is a political platform that emerged as an alternative to traditional left-wing parties. Over the past three years, the organization has already convened its assembly three times to address key issues. Internal conflicts and leadership changes may affect its role in future coalitions. In Spain, party crises often become a catalyst for renewal or, conversely, for weakening positions on the political stage.
