Jonathan Andik, the eldest son of Mango clothing chain founder, was detained by Catalan police on suspicion of murdering his father, Isak Andik. The arrest took place in Barcelona, when plainclothes officers came to his home. According to La Vanguardia, he was taken to the police station, where his interests are represented by lawyer Cristóbal Martell. El Pais reports that the detention is linked to the need to question Jonathan as a suspect. Isak Andik died on December 14, 2024, while hiking in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona. On that day, Jonathan was accompanying him. According to the official version, the 71-year-old entrepreneur fell off a cliff more than 100 meters high on a moderately difficult route. Initially, the police classified the tragedy as an accident, and in January 2025, the case was closed. However, several months later, in October 2025, the investigation was reopened and the cause of death was changed to homicide. The reason was discrepancies in Jonathan's statements given immediately after his father's death. Initially, these inconsistencies were explained by shock, but later investigators decided to re-examine the circumstances of the incident.
El Pais reports that a few days before the tragedy, Jonathan Andic visited the same places in Montserrat where his father later died. Lawyers claim that he was simply preparing for a joint hike. In addition, journalists discovered that there were disagreements between Isaac and Jonathan regarding the son's role in managing Mango. Isaac's partner, professional golfer Estefania Knuth, also spoke about their complicated relationship. Despite this, Jonathan has denied any involvement in his father's death from the very beginning.
Jonathan Andic is the eldest of three children of Isaac Andic, a native of Istanbul who opened the first Mango store in Barcelona in 1984. At the time of his death, Isaac's fortune was estimated at $4.5 billion, and the chain had around 2,850 stores worldwide. Jonathan had worked at the company since 2005, held the position of vice chairman of the board, and led the Mango Man segment. In 2012, Isaac began giving his son more authority, but after financial results worsened in 2015, he brought in a new CFO, Toni Ruiz, who later replaced Jonathan as CEO. In June 2025, Jonathan was also relieved of his duties as head of Mango Man, retaining only his seat on the board of directors.
