A CT scan after Martín’s Phillip Island sprint crash confirmed a single fracture in his right wrist. Aprilia said surgery was not needed at that stage; the injury ruled him out of the Australian race.

The championship picture changed at Phillip Island on Saturday, October 24, when Jorge Martín crashed at Turn 8 on the eighth lap of the sprint while battling Marc Márquez for the lead. The Aprilia rider was taken to the circuit medical centre. Initial X-rays confirmed a radius fracture and raised concern about a possible fracture of the ulna near the wrist. Márquez won the sprint after Martín’s fall.

After leaving the circuit, Martín travelled to Melbourne for further imaging. A CT scan confirmed that his only injury was a non-displaced fracture of the distal radius in his right arm; the suspected ulna fracture was not confirmed. Aprilia said the findings did not call for immediate surgery, and Martín would remain in Australia for treatment rather than return to Spain for an operation.

Martín’s fall also changed the championship standings. Marc Márquez won the sprint and took the lead, with a 10-point advantage over Martín and a 50-point margin over Bezzecchi, who finished fourth. The injury ruled Martín out of Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix. Aprilia planned to treat him over the following days and assess a possible return at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
