During the anniversary visit, Christian von Koenigsegg, founder and CEO of Koenigsegg Automotive AB, said the Barcelona team had grown from 17 people at its start to nearly 100. The site makes components for Koenigsegg’s cars and works closely with the marque’s composites department in Ängelholm, Sweden.
Its output includes carbon-fibre steering wheels, as well as the Jesko’s seat. The team also makes a bonnet. That puts the Barcelona operation directly into production of parts for one of the manufacturer’s models, rather than confining it to development work.
Koenigsegg Advanced Manufacturing specialises in carbon fibre, valued in high-performance cars for its low weight and strength. Composite construction has featured in Koenigsegg cars for decades: earlier models used carbon-fibre and Kevlar body panels, alongside aluminium honeycomb structures. Carbon fibre also features in a separate Renault concept report; in Barcelona, the focus is on making components for Koenigsegg.
The anniversary display was set up so family and friends could see what employees make. Christian said the exhibits were relatively empty because staff were at home preparing for a small celebration.
