Madrid has approved €15.4 million for birth and adoption grants of up to €1,000. Applications are expected to open next week for families whose child was born or adopted from 1 September 2026, subject to a five-year registration rule.
Madrid’s city government has approved €15.4 million, with €10.7 million reserved for 2027 and €4.7 million for applications submitted in the final four months of 2026. The money will go to families after a birth or adoption.
The first child attracts €500. The payment rises to €750 for a second child and €1,000 for a third or any later child. It is a one-off grant.
There is no income ceiling for applicants and no age limit for parents. The applicant must, but, have been registered as a resident in Madrid for at least five years. The grant can be combined with other assistance for the same purpose from public bodies or other organisations.
Applications are expected to open next week, after the call is published in the Boletín Oficial del Ayuntamiento de Madrid (BOAM). The city has yet to set the precise opening date. For births or adoptions from 1 September 2026 up to the publication date, the two-month application period will start the day after publication. In other cases, applications must be submitted within two months of the birth or adoption.
The form will be available on the city’s website and must be signed by a parent or guardian. Families can submit it in person at the Ayuntamiento’s registry or online through its electronic office. Only one application is allowed for each birth or adoption; multiple births or adoptions require a separate application for each child.
The applicant must be a Spanish citizen or a foreign national legally resident in Spain. They must not have been deprived of parental authority over their children and must not fall under the beneficiary exclusions in Article 13 of the Ley General de Subvenciones. The Área de Políticas Sociales, Familia e Igualdad will check eligibility before payment.
The city says the new call is part of its Plan de Fomento de la Natalidad y Conciliación 2024-2029. It is a separate family-support measure from the healthcare policy issue covered in Madrid’s private healthcare expansion.
The allocation is below the €17.3 million set aside for the first edition. Municipal sources said the earlier estimate was based on the number of births; this time, the calculation shows applications received and grants awarded. The budget could increase if demand from families warrants it.
