The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) says the city will wake up to thick cloud cover and rain, with the heaviest showers likely around 5:00 a.m. and up to 0.6 liters per square meter. The rain should ease by early morning, but the chance of storms will stick around through the day.
After weeks of early summer heat, the drop will be noticeable. Highs will reach just 26°C, and lows will be near 14°C, with a felt minimum of about 15°C. Light northeast winds will add to the chill, a clear break from the recent warmth. By late afternoon, skies are expected to clear and temperatures will start to recover.
According to AEMET, just days before the cold front, Madrid recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8°C with no rainfall, making the sudden drop to 26°C and the onset of rain especially striking.
The unsettled weather won’t last long. Thursday should bring calmer conditions, mostly clear skies, and a slight rebound in temperatures—highs of 27°C and lows down to 11°C. By Friday, the forecast calls for clear skies and a further rise to 30°C. The weekend looks set for classic summer weather: Saturday will be sunny with highs of 32°C, and Sunday will stay warm with a few clouds and a peak of 33°C. Winds will be light, offering a break from the earlier gusts.
Nearby towns will also see the change. In Brunete, the day will start stormy and overcast, with light rain expected around 6:00 and 13:00, then shifting to patchy clouds. Temperatures there will range from 16°C to 28°C. Ávila will have a colder morning, with rain and heavy clouds clearing by midday and no more rain expected. Temperatures in Ávila will swing from 8°C up to 22°C.
Other towns across central and northern Spain—Tomelloso, Soria, Burgos, Teruel, Albacete, Logroño, Girona, El Ejido, Badajoz, Irun, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Valencia, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Cartagena—are also expecting unsettled weather, but the biggest changes are focused on Madrid and its neighbors. AEMET notes that all forecasts are provisional and may change as conditions develop.
