Plenary in Madrid Without Ayuso: Mexico Conflict and Internal Party Discord. A plenary session is taking place in Madrid without the regional president. Ayuso has left for Mexico, sparking a diplomatic scandal there. Meanwhile, the struggle for leadership within Más Madrid is intensifying.

A plenary session of the Assembly is taking place in Madrid today, which, for the first time in a long while, is being held without the region's main political figure. The president of the community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is in Mexico, where her visit has already sparked a strong reaction from local authorities and become a topic of discussion in Spanish political circles.

The tension is fueled not only by Ayuso’s previous critical remarks about Claudia Sheinbaum, but also by her participation in an event dedicated to Hernán Cortés. The Mexican government regarded this as a provocation, and the visit has taken on an international dimension. Additional attention was drawn to the fact that Ayuso visited a university founded by businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, who had previously clashed with Sheinbaum over a tax debt that was resolved only after nearly $2 billion was paid.

Reaction in Madrid

Ayuso’s absence at the plenary caused discontent among the opposition and prompted criticism from the minister and leader of the socialists in Madrid, who is preparing to run against her next year. According to him, such a prolonged absence of the head of the region is unprecedented. In the president’s absence, the leader of the Partido Popular’s parliamentary group, Carlos Díaz-Pache, will answer questions from the opposition.

Intra-party disagreements

Meanwhile, a struggle for control of Más Madrid is intensifying. Emilio Delgado, the party's second-ranking member in the Assembly, has shown interest in joining the primaries and seeks to increase his influence, which has led to conflict with the leadership and Health Minister Mónica García. Manuela Bergerot, a supporter of García, is also participating in the debates. At present, both factions are negotiating a possible agreement to avoid further division, according to a source.

International context

Ayuso's visit to Mexico unexpectedly propelled her onto the international stage and made her a prominent figure in the confrontation with Morena, the country's ruling party. According to Spanish media, her actions are seen as an independent political stance, different from the general strategy of the Partido Popular. In recent days, attention to events in Madrid has shifted across the ocean, and the region's internal political processes have become closely intertwined with international conflicts and the personal ambitions of its leaders.
