A deadly landslide struck Manzanedo de Valdueza, in the municipality of Ponferrada, León, on Thursday evening after a sudden flood triggered a major movement of earth. The incident unfolded at around 19:38, when the 112 emergency line began receiving multiple calls reporting rapidly rising water and visible earth movements in the area. The alerts prompted a response from local and national emergency services. The Bomberos de Ponferrada, Policía Nacional and Policía Local responded, along with the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias and the Grupo de Intervención Psicológica en Desastres y Emergencias (Gripde). Teams were sent to the affected area to manage the emergency and assist those impacted.
The Centro Coordinador de Emergencias of the Agencia de Protección Civil also activated a rescue helicopter to support operations at the site. Sacyl mobilized medical resources, including two ambulances, one basic and one advanced life support unit, as well as medical staff from the local PAC. The Subdelegación del Gobierno confirmed the death but did not release further details about the deceased. The two injured minors received care at the scene; the extent of their injuries was not specified.
