600 Mossos carry out major operation against drug gang in Girona. The largest Mossos d’Esquadra operation against a group involved in drugs, weapons, and money laundering took place in Girona and the surrounding area. Raids affected 12 municipalities in the region.

On Wednesday night, one of the largest police operations in recent years took place in the province of Girona: about 600 Mossos d’Esquadra officers simultaneously conducted searches and arrests in 12 municipalities of the region. According to the Catalonia police, the operation targeted a group suspected of running illegal marijuana plantations, drug trafficking, possessing firearms, and money laundering.

The operation began before dawn and covered several cities at once: Girona, Salt, Riudarenes, Cassà de la Selva, l’Escala, Sils, Caldes de Malavella, Brunyola, Llagostera, Bescanó, Celrà, and Quart. In each of them, law enforcement officers carried out simultaneous raids in both residential and non-residential premises connected to the suspects. According to Mossos d’Esquadra, the operation involved not only investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), but also members of the GEI special unit, the BRIMO mobile brigade, canine units, forensic service, as well as air support and patrol officers from the ARRO division.

Police report that the investigation is classified and details about the number of detainees and seized materials have not yet been disclosed. It is known that investigators are primarily focused on the scale of the illegal marijuana production and possible distribution channels, as well as identifying schemes for legalizing proceeds from criminal activity. Mossos d’Esquadra emphasize that these are coordinated actions against organized crime operating not only in Girona, but also in other parts of Catalonia.

In recent years, the Catalan police have regularly reported on major operations against drug trafficking and related crimes. For example, law enforcement previously focused on cases where properties associated with suspects became the focus of other investigations, as was the case with the role of real estate in Madrid described in the article about the police uncovering connections between the Zapatero house and the Plus Ultra case. Such cases highlight the diversity of schemes used to conceal the proceeds and logistics of criminal groups.

For reference: Mossos d'Esquadra is the regional police of Catalonia, with broad authority to combat organized crime. In recent years, the region has become a key area for illegal marijuana cultivation in Spain, due to its mild climate and developed infrastructure. According to experts, such operations not only disrupt the activities of individual groups but also reveal new schemes for money laundering and illegal arms trafficking. Catalan authorities emphasize that the fight against the drug trade remains a top priority for both regional and national security agencies.
