BMW M4 GT3 EVO Faces Maximum Restriction Ahead of Nürburgring 24. The Nürburgring 24 organizers have tightened restrictions for the BMW M4 GT3 EVO by raising its minimum weight by 10 kg. Lamborghini and Porsche are also subject to the new measures. These changes affect the race favorites and could impact the final results.
Before the start of the legendary Nürburgring 24 race, organizers made key changes to the balance of performance among the GT3 class participants. The most notable was a tougher restriction for the BMW M4 GT3 EVO: the minimum weight of this car was increased by 10 kg at once—from 1340 to 1350 kg. This decision was made even though the best BMW only posted the ninth fastest time in qualifying. According to Sportscar365, BMW is the most affected by the new restrictions.
At the same time, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, which secured both first places in the final qualifying session and was considered one of the main contenders for victory, received less severe measures. For Lamborghini, the weight was increased by 5 kg and the air restrictor diameter was reduced by 0.5 mm—from 50.5 to 50 mm. As Sportscar365 notes, this could mean a loss of about 9–10 horsepower.
A similar tightening affected the Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, with its weight also increased by 5 kg. For the Ford Mustang GT3 EVO, organizers reverted the second air restrictor to its previous size—35 mm, canceling the increase introduced the day before. The other SP9 class cars were unchanged. In the SP10 class, the adjustment only affected the fuel tank of the Mercedes-AMG GT4.
The Nürburgring 24 race starts today at 15:00 Central European Time. In recent years, the balance of power and technical restrictions have often been decisive factors in the outcome of the marathon.
