On Friday, eastern Spain is expected to experience a sharp deterioration in weather conditions: according to Aemet, heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a significant drop in daytime temperatures are forecast for Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia, and the Balearic Islands. Weather warnings have been issued in several areas, including a yellow alert on the Balearic Islands due to storm winds and waves, as well as for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Catalonia.
Forecasters note that a moist air mass will bring thunderstorms overnight in Catalonia, while Valencia and Alicante are expected to see heavy precipitation. Maximum temperatures will drop sharply along the entire eastern coast and in the Balearic Islands, while a slight increase in temperature is possible in the northwestern and central regions of the country. Minimum temperatures will decrease almost throughout Spain.
In most eastern and southeastern regions the sky will be overcast, with fog possible in some places, especially in the north. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected in the morning along the Catalonian coast, with intermittent rainfall in other areas. Light rain is possible in Galicia and northern Cantabria, and isolated downpours are expected in the Iberian mountain system.
The wind will intensify in the Balearic Islands and along the eastern coast, with occasional strong gusts possible. In other regions of the country, the wind will be moderate or light, but local increases are possible near Cadiz, Extremadura, and in the north of the Canary Islands. In the northern areas of the Canary Islands, clouds and light precipitation are expected, while the mountainous islands will see a noticeable drop in temperature and very strong wind gusts.
In Galicia and the north of the country, periods of cloudiness are forecast with possible fog and light rain, especially along the coast. In the central and western regions, including Castile and León, variable cloudiness is expected, and in the mountains, cloud cover will increase towards evening. In Andalusia and Madrid, significant precipitation is not expected, but nighttime temperatures will drop.
In Catalonia and the Valencian Community, meteorologists warn of the most noticeable cooling: in Valencia, maximum temperatures may fall to unusually low levels for June. In Murcia and the Balearic Islands, a significant drop in temperature is also expected, with brief showers possible in some areas.
Authorities recommend that residents and tourists take weather changes into account when planning trips and outdoor activities. In case of worsening conditions, transport disruptions and temporary restrictions on certain routes are possible, as has already happened in major cities during recent events—for example, when movement restrictions were introduced in Madrid and Barcelona due to the Pope's visit.
According to Aemet, unstable weather will persist in the eastern regions of Spain and the Balearic Islands at least until the end of the week. In recent years, unusual weather in June has become increasingly common: sharp temperature fluctuations and localized downpours are recorded not only on the coast but also in the inland areas of the country. Under these conditions, it is especially important to follow official warnings and respond promptly to changes in the forecast.
