Isabel Rodríguez says a fast-food receipt cannot stop the removal of someone illegally occupying an inhabited home. The minister accuses Alberto Núñez Feijóo of using the claim as his only housing-policy argument.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo made the claim on Wednesday as he argued that property owners fear illegal occupation. Housing Minister Isabel Rodríguez rejected it, saying a pizza receipt cannot prevent authorities from removing someone who has unlawfully occupied an inhabited home.

Verifica RTVE had already debunked the claim in 2023. Rodríguez said no court or police force would accept a takeaway ticket as proof of a right to remain, and pointed to laws covering usurpation and trespass that protect residents and property owners.

The practical point is narrow but important: a food order receipt does not, by itself, stop removal from an inhabited property. Feijóo had said owners feared that someone arriving with proof of a pizza order could not be removed for years.

Rodríguez accused the PP leader of making the claim his sole argument on housing. She also criticised the party for opposing measures that she said would provide direct assistance of up to €50,000 to Spaniards buying their first home. The dispute over the proposed aid followed a recent vote in the Congress of Deputies.

Pedro Sánchez brought the claim into a rally in Burgos, where he mocked Feijóo and Santiago Abascal for inviting Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, and then struggling to find a topic to discuss. Sánchez said they had been told not to talk about cuts until 29N. The wider political dispute involving Milei also featured in earlier coverage.

The PP did not retract Feijóo’s claim the following day. Its secretary general, Miguel Tellado, responded to PSOE criticism on X with a taunt portraying the Socialists as the party of thieves.
