The 30th Festival TEMUDAS brings theatre and live arts to Las Palmas until September 26, pairing Canarian creators with touring artists and a wider cultural exchange across northern Spain.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has become a working stage for theatre, music, dance and circus as the 30º Festival TEMUDAS continues in plazas and parks beside the ocean until Saturday 26 September. The programme places artists from the Canary Islands alongside performers connected to one of Spain’s largest performing arts exchanges. The eighth edition of Camino Escena Norte is also under way as this year’s Foco. According to the official TEMUDAS website, the festival runs from 17 to 26 September, with events spread across open-air locations around the city.
TEMUDAS stands out for combining public space with a dense programme of local creation. Daniel Abreu presents Selva and Txema Muñoz brings Gota, while artists from the islands or based there contribute a broad range of formats and subjects.
TEMUDAS 2026 includes 54 performances in total, with 31 of them scheduled during the first week around Santa Catalina Park, Plaza de Canarias and other open-air venues.
Other participants include Rocío Pozo with Liberté ‘El despertar del ser’ and Celeste Ayus Motta with El Jablero Cía. de Danza and Plumáticas. Ian Garside and Cristina Pérez Sosa appear for Peso Producciones with Esperando a Beckett. Aurora Jara brings Choriza, while Elisabet Spin and Alba Blanco represent Entropías Imposibles Teatro with Popis & Pupas, agentes de la ITV del universo.
The programme also includes Fabián Lomio and Cenadefindeaño. Resonare, as well as Germán Arias, artistic director of the Banda Sinfónica Municipal, with We will rock you 3.0. The range reflects TEMUDAS’s breadth: the festival moves between spoken theatre, movement, music, street arts and circus in the city’s open-air spaces. Camino Escena Norte gives the festival a wider geographical frame. Coordinated by Nerea Soto Gutiérrez, the project connects Galicia, Cantabria, Euskadi, Navarra, La Rioja and Asturias through cultural exchange in the performing arts. Its presence in Las Palmas links the island programme to a network built around movement between territories and artistic communities, bringing the Canary Islands into a wider circulation of companies and performances.
The 2026 edition of Camino Escena Norte is its eighth and uses the slogan “Latidos Escénicos”. According to reports by Europa Press and El Correo, the exchange reaches nine locations in northern Spain, underlining the growth of its interregional network.
The public programme is accompanied by broadcasts from an RNE studio led by Yovanka Ramírez Sierra. Marisol García Abraham serves as artistic director, alongside Josué Íñiguez Ollero, councillor for Culture, and Mónica Hidalgo Mateo, who coordinates the guests. Before the festival opened, the official TEMUDAS programme also included the third professional gathering A cielo abierto. La Cultura en movimiento, providing an industry-focused prelude to the anniversary edition.
The wider agenda extends beyond Las Palmas. Alessandra García offers a preview of ¿Tú sabes lo que es una posidonia? at Teatro del Soho de Málaga. Helena Burgos presents Libres!!! at Teatro de La Abadía de Madrid, while Ane Gabaraín takes Cantando bajo las balas to Teatre Apolo de Barcelona.
La Casa Encendida schedules Ídem 2026. Encuentro de artes vivas y comunidades from 22 to 27, curated by Rolf Abderhalden under the theme Ecotopías. Jorge García Palomo leads ¿Algún cómico en La sala? with Mario Velasco and Dani Piqueras, and Como una sonrisa enters Leticia Audibert’s “Palabras a escena”.
