A 24-year-old man and another unidentified swimmer drowned on Sunday in southern Alicante. Both incidents occurred as several beaches faced rough sea warnings. Emergency teams were unable to revive the victims.
Two fatal drownings occurred on Sunday along the southern coast of Alicante, as emergency services responded to separate incidents in Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja. Both cases unfolded while local beaches were under warnings due to rough sea conditions, according to the Centro de Información y Coordinación de Urgencias (CICU).
The first incident was reported at 19:40 on Mil Palmeras beach in Pilar de la Horadada. A 24-year-old man was pulled from the water unconscious. Medical teams from the Servicio de Ayuda Médica Urgente (SAMU) and Basic Life Support (SVB) units arrived quickly and attempted advanced resuscitation, but the swimmer could not be revived and his death was confirmed at the scene.
Earlier that afternoon, at 16:45, emergency services were called to a cove in Torrevieja, where another man was found unconscious in the water. The victim's age has not been disclosed. SAMU personnel again attempted resuscitation, but the efforts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead, as confirmed by the same sources.
Both incidents are under investigation, with autopsies pending to determine the precise causes of death. The drownings occurred during a weekend when several beaches in Alicante province were under advisories due to strong waves and hazardous swimming conditions.
