Aemet issues yellow alert for heavy rain and storms in Valencia. Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Monday in the Valencian Community. A yellow alert is in effect in Alicante and Castellón. Localized heavy rainfall and temperature fluctuations are expected.

On Monday, May 4, the Valencian Community is expected to experience worsening weather conditions: Aemet has warned of the likelihood of heavy rains and thunderstorms that will affect several provinces. According to the agency, the most challenging situation is forecast for the inland areas of northern Castellón, where precipitation could be particularly intense. Cloudy periods will persist in the region throughout the day, and the chance of thunderstorms will increase by evening.

Authorities have declared a yellow weather alert for Alicante and Castellón for the afternoon. This is due to the risk of heavy rain and storms, which may be accompanied by gusty winds. Minimum temperatures will drop slightly, while maximum temperatures will rise—especially along the Valencia coast and in southern Castellón. In the morning, winds will be light and variable, but by evening, easterly and southerly winds will strengthen along the coast, while westerly winds will pick up inland, reaching moderate levels in some areas.

Bad weather continues

For Tuesday, May 5, meteorologists forecast a brief clearing in the morning, but cloud cover will increase during the day, and rain and thunderstorms will return to the region. The inland areas of the northern part of the Valencian Community will remain at risk of localized heavy precipitation, while in the south the likelihood of rain will be lower and more scattered. Temperatures will either remain the same or drop slightly. In Castellón, the yellow alert will remain in place from noon due to the threat of new downpours and storms.

Warming will give way to a cold snap

According to Aemet's forecast, by Wednesday, May 6, weather conditions will begin to stabilize. Variable cloudiness is expected, with the possibility of occasional light and brief showers. Temperatures will continue to drop, which will be noticeable throughout the region.

Context and consequences

Aemet's weather warnings have become increasingly frequent in recent weeks amid an unstable spring. Neighboring regions of Spain are also experiencing weather anomalies: for example, Catalonia recently assessed the damage after widespread tree falls caused by strong winds — details on the aftermath of the bad weather in Catalonia are available in a separate article.
