Barcelona Opens Applications for Support up to 1,650 Euros for Families with Children Under 16. Barcelona has begun accepting applications for municipal assistance for families with children under 16. The maximum payment amount is 1,650 euros, but only those who meet certain criteria can receive it. Details on the rules, deadlines, and application specifics are in the article.

From May 13 to June 22, 2026, families in Barcelona with children under 16 can apply for a municipal benefit. The 'Childhood Fund 0-16' program is aimed at supporting low-income households with minors, offering up to €1,650 per family.

The benefit is intended to cover basic expenses: food, clothing, footwear, school supplies, and utilities. Assistance is only available to families registered in Barcelona and connected to municipal social services. It is important that the children were born no earlier than January 1, 2010, and have been registered in the city since January 1, 2025, maintaining registration at the time of application.

Another mandatory condition is at least one visit to the municipal social services between January 1 and December 31, 2025. This requirement prevents random applications and emphasizes the targeted nature of the support.

Benefit amount

The amount depends on the number of children in the family. €600 is allotted for one child, €1,050 for two. For each additional child, €300 is added. Single-parent families receive an additional bonus—€600 per family. The maximum amount of €1,650 is thus available, for example, to a single-parent family with two children.

Income limits

Only families whose total income does not exceed the established limits are eligible for the payment. For two people, no more than €16,357.71 per year; for three, €19,435.24; for four, €22,512.77. As the number of family members increases, the limit also rises: for five — €25,590.30; for six — €28,667.83; for seven — €31,745.36; for eight — €34,822.89; for nine — €37,900.42.

If the number of applications exceeds the available budget, the payment amounts may be reduced proportionally.

How to apply

You can apply for assistance through the Barcelona City Council's virtual platform—electronic identification is required (idCAT Mòbil, digital certificate, or identity document). For those unable to use the internet, it is possible to book an in-person appointment at the offices on Aragó Street, 344 or Sicília, 216.

Funds will be credited to a special Barcelona Solidària card, which can be used for purchases at partner stores and online via CaixaBankNow. In case the card is lost or stolen, it can be blocked and replaced by calling 010.

Questions about income and the criteria for receiving social assistance often cause confusion. For example, when applying for other benefits, as noted by russpain.com, it's important to note that the calculation is based on income before taxes, which may be an unexpected obstacle for many families.

Municipal assistance does not replace federal payments but complements them, allowing families with children in Barcelona to receive additional support in a challenging economic situation. It is important to apply carefully, checking all requirements in advance and preparing the necessary documents.
