In regions where PSOE previously dominated, such as Extremadura and Andalusia, voters are increasingly expressing dissatisfaction with bureaucracy, difficulties faced by farmers, and a lack of flexibility in approaches to traditional activities like hunting. Many residents note that left-wing parties do not take into account the real needs of rural areas, and criticism of familiar practices only deepens the sense of alienation.
According to polls, young voters are increasingly choosing parties like Vox, which offer simple and emotionally charged slogans related to the defense of national traditions, anti-European rhetoric, and support for agriculture. In the 18 to 34 age group, no other party enjoys such support, regardless of social status or education level.
Universities and trade union activists are also witnessing growing apathy. Professors and union leaders point to a lack of critical thinking in schools and disappointment following mass protests that failed to bring about real change. According to some experts, left-wing parties are overburdened with numerous ideological issues, which prevents them from developing a unified strategy and effectively competing with the right.
Against this backdrop, regional nationalist movements positioning themselves as left-wing are showing local successes, but their growth is explained more by a low starting point than by a real expansion of the left bloc. At the same time, internal conflicts between parties such as Podemos and Sumar only worsen voter demobilization.
Among the causes of fatigue among left-wing supporters are corruption scandals and the lack of a unified agenda. Some activists note that left-wing parties impose their values too often, leaving no room for discussion. As a result, some former supporters either lapse into apathy or switch to the opponents' side.
The influence of social networks also plays an important role, where individualism and distrust of collective action are becoming the norm. According to experts, left-wing forces have failed to offer an attractive alternative amid ongoing crises—economic, climate, and political. As analysts note, leftist parties are losing their connection with part of their traditional electorate.
In the context of these changes, it is worth noting that similar trends are observed in other European countries. For example, in Germany, after the Greens came to power, part of society also grew tired of constant reforms and ideological disputes. As shown by an analysis of intraparty conflicts in Spain, disagreements within the left camp only intensify fragmentation and reduce the chances of consolidation.
To understand the situation, it's important to note that Spain remains one of the EU countries with the most pronounced political polarization. According to recent studies, the level of trust in political institutions among young people and rural residents continues to decline. At the same time, despite fatigue and disappointment, some activists continue to insist on the need for collective struggle for social rights and the preservation of core values.
