A local resident alerted the 112 emergency service at about 9.34am on Monday, 2 November, after hearing cries during an argument in La Fama. The National Police deployed officers and began searching for a man who had fled the scene, arresting a 45-year-old suspect later that morning.
The victim, aged about 30, had been stabbed in the neck and abdomen, among other parts of her body. A Unidad Móvil de Emergencias from the Servicio Murciano de Salud attended, but medical staff could only certify her death at the scene.
Police sources said the woman was found near the junction of calle de la Calí Josefa Fernández Romero and calle Santa Rita. Witnesses identified her as Lorena and said she was from Molina de Segura. Reports described multiple stab wounds, including injuries to the abdomen.
The area was cordoned off while forensic officers collected evidence. At about 11.30am, after a judge authorised the removal of the body, it was taken to the Instituto de Medicina Legal y Forense for an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
The case is being investigated by the Grupo de Homicidios of the Brigada Provincial de Policía Judicial, which is examining the circumstances and the relationship between the two people. Sources from the Delegación del Gobierno said the death was not initially being treated as gender-based violence: preliminary enquiries indicated that the detained man and the victim may not have known each other and had no partner relationship. The man, who is in police custody pending presentation before a judicial authority, is about 45. Investigators have not publicly established a motive.
