Woody Allen will start filming in Madrid on 5 October 2026 with about €3 million in public funding. The six-week production will use more than 30 locations in Madrid and Aranjuez.

About €3 million in public money is behind Woody Allen's new film. Madrid City Hall will provide €1.5 million, and the regional government of the Comunidad de Madrid will provide another €1.5 million.

Shooting is scheduled to start on 5 October 2026. The work will continue for about six weeks across more than 30 locations in Madrid and Aranjuez.

The film has no final title yet. It is a contemporary comedy about romance, intrigue and infidelity. Part of the story will take place in a diplomatic setting.

The Madrid project will be Woody Allen’s 51st film. Its working names include Wasp 2026 and Madrid, but neither has been confirmed as the final title.

Madrid will sit at the centre of the production. Allen chose the city for its beauty and elegance, according to Variety. Its streets and urban life will provide the main setting.

That is a large footprint.

The cameras will move through more than 30 locations instead of staying in one studio or one fixed area. Madrid will host most of the work, while Aranjuez will also be part of the six-week schedule.

Variety identifies Wanda Vision, Gravier Productions and 3SIX9 Studios as the companies behind the film. Wanda Vision producer Miguel Morales welcomed the decision.

The project is backed by around €3 million in public funding: €1.5 million from Madrid City Hall and €1.5 million from the regional government of the Comunidad de Madrid. Local authorities have therefore given the production concrete financial support as well as a public welcome.

Isabel Díaz Ayuso has also welcomed the project. Madrid mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida thanked Allen for choosing the city. Regional materials record Díaz Ayuso's support as well.

The location has already drawn attention in recent cinema coverage about Madrid's cultural life. Allen's production brings a different kind of attention. It will put the city on screen through an active international film shoot.

The schedule is set for 5 October 2026, with six weeks of filming planned. The project was presented in Madrid as Allen's 51st feature, but its final title has not been announced.

The reported cast includes Alexi Wasser, Jemima Kirke, Peter Vives, Marton Csokas and Jakob Oftebro. José Luis Alcaine is attached as cinematographer.

This will be Allen's third Spanish film after Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Rifkin's Festival. One report says production moved from an earlier spring plan to October.

Madrid has a direct role in the film. Allen selected the capital for its visual character and street life, and the production will use more than 30 locations in Madrid and Aranjuez. Variety describes the story as a contemporary comedy with romance, intrigue and infidelity. Diplomacy will also form part of the setting.
