A massive fire broke out early in the morning in the industrial zone of San Martín de la Vega, near Madrid. The blaze erupted at a car dismantling site, where flames quickly engulfed several vehicles within minutes. Fire crews arrived at the scene almost immediately, but the fire proved treacherous: it rapidly spread to neighboring buildings, threatening a number of warehouses and workshops.
The fire started around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Cobre and Plomo streets. Within minutes, a thick column of smoke rose above the area, visible from several kilometers away. Although the smoke rose straight up and did not reach residential neighborhoods, anxiety among industrial zone workers grew by the minute.
All available resources were deployed to battle the blaze: fifteen fire crews converged on the scene. Emergency responders worked in unison, trying to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. Meanwhile, police and civil guard officers organized an urgent evacuation of businesses located close to the epicenter of the fire. Other workers were instructed not to leave their workplaces and to remain inside until further notice.
Fortunately, despite the scale of the incident, there were no injuries. Medical teams were on standby, but their help wasn’t needed. However, the damage is already substantial: several cars have been completely destroyed, and other facilities remain at risk. Firefighters are still at the scene, working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
The situation remains tense: the fire is not yet fully under control, and businesses in the area have temporarily suspended operations. Authorities urge people to stay calm and follow safety instructions. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but experts have already started investigating the circumstances of the incident.
