Fans of Spanish cinema and the charismatic Candela Peña have reason to celebrate. The actress, known for her vibrant and profound roles, is opening a new chapter in her career in 2025 with the launch of her own television show. After successful appearances as a contributor on projects such as “Late xou” with Marc Giró and her return to “La revuelta” with David Broncano, Peña is firmly establishing herself as a TV host. This move appears to be a logical progression in her television career, where her spontaneity and unique sense of humor have always resonated with viewers.
The new project, titled “Una tarda amb…” (“An Evening With…”), will air on the Catalan channel La 2Cat every Wednesday at 11:00 p.m. This is more than just another talk show. Candela Peña, together with renowned screenwriter and TV host Bob Pop—who will co-direct the project—has something special in store for viewers. The show’s format features informal conversations with guests, friends, and notable personalities in a variety of settings. Forget about sterile studios and scripted questions. These conversations will unfold wherever the guests feel comfortable: in Candela’s living room, at a favorite restaurant, in a museum, on the streets of the Gothic Quarter, or even on a tourist bus. The project aims to showcase a multifaceted and welcoming Catalonia, far removed from the usual stereotypes of a singular Catalan identity.
The launch of Candela Peña’s show is part of a large-scale strategy by the national broadcaster RTVE to strengthen its presence in Catalonia. The recently introduced channel La 2Cat has set an ambitious goal: to increase the share of Catalan-language broadcasting to 70%, effectively doubling last year’s figure. The corporation’s management underscores its commitment to multilingualism and its intention to create high-quality content in Catalan, covering all areas from news and sports to culture and entertainment. All production will be concentrated at RTVE’s Catalan center.
The new channel’s director, Oriol Nolis, outlined three key objectives. First, La 2Cat aims to complement existing Catalan-language television offerings, rather than compete with them. Second, the channel aspires to serve as a mirror reflecting the diverse and pluralistic society of modern Catalonia, providing content that meets the public interest. Third, a major mission is the preservation and enrichment of RTVE’s rich audiovisual heritage in Catalan, projecting it into the future. Nolis also emphasized that, in the age of digital platforms, traditional television remains relevant, especially when it comes to live broadcasts that create a sense of presence and community.
