Tension has resurfaced in Spanish football after Dani Carvajal, captain of the Madrid team, spoke out against holding the match between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami. His stance sparked widespread reaction among fans and experts.
Carvajal expressed his view that moving the game outside Spain undermines the principles of equality for all league participants. According to him, such a decision could cast doubt on the integrity of the competition and create unequal conditions for the teams.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas responded promptly, stating he does not see this step as a threat to sporting integrity. Tebas also recalled last year’s club television footage from the Madrid side, which he believes put pressure on the referees.
In response, Carvajal noted that breaking regulations and moving the match overseas would leave a negative mark on the tournament’s history. He emphasized that discussion of video clips should not distract from the main issue — adherence to established rules.
The discussion between club representatives and league management has continued for a second day. Carvajal insists on equal conditions for all participants and calls for fairness from players, clubs, and organizers.
At the same time, Tebas believes that such decisions do not affect the course of the championship, and considers the accusations against the league to be unfounded. He is confident that rescheduling the match does not violate sporting principles, and says criticism from the Madrid club is driven by internal interests.
The situation regarding the possible hosting of the match in Miami has sparked discussion not only among football officials but also within Spanish society. The question of whether such actions are permissible remains open, and the parties are still far from reaching an agreement.
