In 2025, it will be 35 years since the meeting of one of Spain’s most talked-about couples — singer Julio Iglesias and Dutch model Miranda Rijnsburger. Their story, which began with a chance encounter, turned into a lasting partnership that remains unconventional: the spouses prefer to live in different countries while maintaining a warm relationship.
The fateful meeting took place in 1990 at the Jakarta airport. Upon seeing the young model, Iglesias reportedly told his companion that she would become his wife. The prophecy came true, but only two decades later. In 2010, the couple formalized their relationship with a private ceremony at their estate in Ojen, located on the Costa del Sol. By that time, they already had five children together: sons Michael, Rodrigo, and Guillermo, as well as twin daughters Victoria and Cristina. Notably, this is the singer’s second marriage. From his first union with Isabel Preysler, which ended in 1978, he has three older children: Chabeli, Julio José, and Enrique.
Despite the strength of their union, the couple leads separate lives. Miranda lives permanently with their children in Miami, in their home in the prestigious Indian Creek neighborhood, while Julio Iglesias has chosen to reside in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. However, the family traditionally spends the summer months together in Spain, at their luxurious estate near Marbella where their wedding took place. They maintain a rather private lifestyle and rarely appear in public. It is known that Miranda maintains a friendship with Paloma Cuevas and singer Luis Miguel, with whom she shares a passion for horses.
Julio Iglesias himself, contrary to rumors, has no intention of retiring. He is actively working on his autobiography and is involved in the production of a biographical series about his life for Netflix. In the spring, the singer issued an official statement denying reports of health problems, specifically rumors about a tumor affecting his mobility. He assured fans that he is in excellent shape and enjoying life with his wife in the Bahamas, with no plans to end his career.
