The Heir of the House of Alba Who Chose Obscurity Over Fame and Public Life

Career at J.P. Morgan: The Secret Life of Spain’s Most Famous Duchess’s Grandson

Descendants of aristocrats choose their own paths. He preferred complete anonymity. His life unfolds far from his homeland. Discover his private career.

The wedding of the Duke of Arjona, Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, to Bárbara Mirjan has once again drawn attention to his children, Luis and Amina. As heirs to one of Spain’s most distinguished families, these young people display a remarkable sense of discretion rarely seen in their circles. Unlike many of their peers, they deliberately avoid social events and do not share details of their personal lives. Their ties to the Alba clan keep them under constant media scrutiny, but even the most persistent journalists manage to uncover only fragments about their lives, as the brother and sister rigorously protect their private space from public view.

Luis Martínez de Irujo stands out particularly for his desire for privacy. While his sister Amina maintains a private social media profile and took the role of matron of honor at their father’s wedding—walking him down the aisle in their late grandmother the Duchess of Alba’s favorite church—Luis is completely absent from the digital world. He has no accounts on major platforms, and even on LinkedIn, there are no traces of his career. Like his sister, his education was exceptional and international. He began his studies at the prestigious Runnymede College in Madrid—where, ironically, his father’s new wife also studied—and later continued his education in the United Kingdom.

The grandson of the Duchess of Alba moved to London, where he enrolled at the University of Exeter. There, he graduated with honors, studying history and international relations. Even as a student, he showed a deep interest in complex subjects, particularly political processes and environmental issues. After university, he set out to gain valuable life experience. For nearly a year and a half, the young man devoted himself to volunteer work at the Spanish branch of Cáritas, helping children with their schoolwork. His journey then took him to Quito, Ecuador, where he worked at the Sustainable Environmental Investment Fund. He also engaged in agricultural activities at the family estate near Seville.

Luis began his professional journey in the financial world about three years ago at the London office of J.P. Morgan, one of the oldest and most influential banking conglomerates in the world. Starting as an intern, he quickly proved himself and was accepted into the corporate analyst development program, a springboard for the company’s most promising young talents. Over two years, he rotated through various departments, gaining a broad range of experience, and today holds the position of manager for core trading products. The young aristocrat has demonstrated impressive achievements and has adapted well to the fast-paced life at the financial heart of the British capital, while his parents have once again found themselves in the spotlight: his father due to a second marriage, and his mother, Genoveva Casanova, who reportedly returned to her homeland in Mexico.
