Fortune has once again smiled on Spain, generously rewarding participants of the popular European lottery. In the latest October Euromillones draw, a resident of the Andalusian town Mairena del Aljarafe became the owner of a fortune. In this municipality of Seville province, the winning ticket bearing the unique code “El Millón” was registered, guaranteeing its holder a prize of one million euros. But the streak of luck didn’t end there: another substantial win, this time of the second category, went to a player from Alicante, boosting their account with an impressive sum.
While the main prize—a colossal jackpot of nearly 30 million euros—was claimed in the United Kingdom, Spanish participants also received significant rewards. The lucky winner from Alicante, who matched five main numbers and one “star,” gained 674,530 euros. This is one of the largest second-category prizes in recent times, causing quite a stir among lottery enthusiasts in the Valencian Community.
The winning combination drawn on Friday, October 3, consisted of the numbers 6, 12, 18, 25, and 41, along with the “stars” 2 and 6. Since the main prize was won, the next draw, which will take place on Tuesday, October 7, will start with a jackpot of 17 million euros, and the pursuit of luck will begin anew.
Euromillones is more than just a lottery—it’s a phenomenon that brings together millions of people across Europe. Its story began in Paris in February 2004 as a joint project of lottery operators from Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. Over time, six more countries joined: Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, and Luxembourg. Draws are held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, and are broadcast from the Spanish capital.
The rules are simple: players choose five main numbers from 1 to 50 and two ‘stars’ from 1 to 12. To win the top prize, all seven numbers must match. However, there are a total of 13 prize categories, offering a chance to win even by matching just two numbers. The minimum guaranteed jackpot is 17 million euros, but it can grow to a staggering 250 million euros—the cap set in 2024.
Spanish players are especially interested in the additional ‘El Millón’ draw. Every ticket purchased in Spain automatically receives a unique alphanumeric code. During each draw, one of these codes is randomly selected as the winner, and its holder is guaranteed a prize of one million euros. This prize is independent of the main number combination, significantly increasing Spaniards’ chances of winning big.
