The European Union countries have a system in place that allows for rapid notification about products with identified defects. Recently, Spain received a notice regarding a technical fault in the braking system of certain Renault and Dacia vehicles. This has triggered a large-scale recall campaign to fix the issue.
The malfunction does not affect all vehicles of these brands, but only specific models with automatic transmissions manufactured between April 2024 and May 2025. Preliminary estimates suggest that more than 20,000 vehicles potentially at risk are currently on Spanish roads.
The problem lies in the electric parking brake. In some cases, the position sensor of the actuator was installed at the wrong angle. As a result, the brake latch does not always engage when shifting the lever to the ‘P’ position. This means that under certain conditions—such as turning off the engine, unfastening the seatbelt, or opening the door—the system may not automatically engage the parking brake as intended.
Although the auxiliary braking system (APB) continues to function, there remains a risk of unintended vehicle movement. The list of affected models includes seven: Renault Austral, Captur, Espace, Rafale, Scenic, Symbioz, and Dacia Duster. All must be equipped with automatic transmissions and produced during the specified period.
Manufacturers have initiated a recall procedure. Vehicle owners at risk are notified directly using registration record data. To fix the defect, it is necessary to contact an official service center, where the repair is carried out free of charge.
Car owners can check independently whether their vehicle is affected by this issue. To do so, they can contact the dealership where the car was purchased or use the online service on the Renault website. In the special RECALL section, simply enter the identification number (VIN) to find out if the vehicle is included in the recall program.
