Yesterday, a serious incident occurred in the Puerta del Ángel area in western Madrid, prompting a large-scale police operation. A conflict broke out among members of a single family in an apartment on Magín Calvo street, resulting in the arrest of seven people and the hospitalization of three injured individuals.
Around two o’clock in the afternoon, neighbors reported a loud argument in a residential building to emergency services. According to witnesses, members of one family were inside the apartment, and two of them had barricaded themselves in with relatives who were being held against their will. Initial reports suggested that minors might be present; however, it was later confirmed that all those involved were adults aged between 41 and 79.
Numerous units of the National Police arrived at the scene, including special forces, negotiators, forensic experts, as well as aerial support using helicopters and drones. The area was cordoned off for four hours, and residents of nearby buildings were asked to remain indoors for safety reasons.
During negotiations, police managed to persuade those barricaded inside to surrender without the use of force. As a result of the operation, seven people were detained, five of whom had been held hostage in the apartment. No firearms were found during the search of the detainees; however, police plan to carry out a further inspection of the premises.
Three people were injured in the conflict. The most seriously hurt was a 78-year-old woman, believed to be the mother of the two main participants in the altercation. She suffered a deep wound to her arm and was urgently taken to the hospital, where her condition is described as serious. Two other men, aged 56 and 26, sustained minor cuts and bruises to their arms and received medical assistance at the scene.
During the incident, some residents reported hearing sounds similar to gunshots; however, police found no evidence of firearms being used, and no one sustained injuries of that nature.
After the operation concluded, all detainees were taken to the police station for further investigation. The case has been handed over to judicial authorities, who are clarifying the circumstances and determining the degree of responsibility of each participant.
The incident sparked concern among local residents, who noted that such cases in Puerta del Ángel are extremely rare. Authorities emphasize that the situation is under control and urge citizens to remain calm.
