SkyShowtime, one of the newest streaming platforms on the Spanish market, continues to bet on local content. The company recently unveiled its next major project—the series “El homenaje.” This premiere is particularly significant as it features the legendary Eusebio Poncela in his final television role. Poncela passed away in August last year after a long battle with a serious illness. The eight-episode thriller serves as a tribute and farewell to the outstanding Madrid actor.
The story centers on Adolfo Novak, the head of one of the country’s most influential families, portrayed by Poncela. The patriarch gathers his entire family and close friends to celebrate his 80th birthday. However, behind the festive toasts and strained smiles lie decades of lies, betrayals, and hidden resentments. The celebration quickly turns into drama as the truth comes to light—more shocking and unexpected than anyone could have imagined.
The project boasts a truly star-studded cast. The team that worked on the successful series “Matices” is reuniting on screen. Alongside Poncela, the cast includes Miriam Giovanelli, Juana Acosta, Enrique Arce, Raúl Prieto, and Luis Tosar. They are joined by other well-known actors, among them Manu Ríos, Álvaro Rico, Ángela Molina, and Georgina Amorós. Notably, Elsa Pataky not only plays one of the roles but also serves as executive producer, lending additional weight to the project.
The creators of the series, representing Secuoya Studios and Stellarmedia, are enthusiastic about the project. They emphasize that “El homenaje” is not just a family drama, but a bold and gripping story filled with intrigue and suspense, designed to surprise viewers. The team expressed confidence that they have produced a high-quality thriller which, thanks to its outstanding cast and creative team, will resonate with a broad audience and become a notable event in the world of Spanish television series.
