The Andalusian coast has once again confirmed its appeal at the international level. An influential British publication has included one of the region’s beaches in the top 5 of its annual ranking of the best holiday destinations in Spain, consisting of 27 entries. Experts described this spot as ‘a little treasure that truly lives up to its name,’ highlighting the successful combination of history, natural landscapes, and a well-developed tourist infrastructure within the city.
The beach in question is El Tesorillo (Playa El Tesorillo), located in the Granada municipality of Almuñécar, on the Costa Tropical. This small cove, only 80 meters long and about 55 meters wide, is surrounded by picturesque rock formations. Its distinct character is enhanced by an old watchtower of Arab origin towering over the beach.
The beach’s name, which translates as ‘Little Treasure,’ is not accidental. Legend has it that gold coins were once found on its shore, which only adds to the feeling of being in a unique corner of the Mediterranean, hidden from prying eyes.
In addition to its history, El Tesorillo attracts tourists with its calm and clean waters, making it an ideal spot for families and snorkeling enthusiasts. The beach is covered with dark sand mixed with pebbles and is equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. There are showers, a sports area, and options to rent sunbeds and umbrellas.
The beach has gained particular popularity thanks to its local chiringuito bars. The British publication specifically highlighted the “Chiringuito Tesorillo,” recommending visitors try the grilled sardines served with a view of the sea and the old tower. With its lively atmosphere and convenient location, this spot is especially popular among young people. High praise from foreign media further strengthens Almuñécar’s reputation as one of the top beach tourism destinations in Andalusia.
