Last Friday, June 26, turned out to be a special day for several residents of Spain who tried their luck in the popular European lottery. The Euromillones draw showered the Canary Islands with cash prizes, bringing joy to two holders of second-tier tickets. These individuals were just one step away from the multimillion-euro jackpot, matching five main numbers and one of the two ‘stars.’
This time, luck was spread across an interesting geography. One of the tickets, which brought its owner a substantial sum, was purchased in Arrecife, the administrative capital of Lanzarote. The second prize-winning ticket of equal value was registered in San Cristóbal de La Laguna in Tenerife. As a result, this fortunate event touched two islands of the archipelago, reinforcing its reputation as a place where miracles can happen.
In addition to these two major wins, five third-category prizes were recorded across Spain. The special ‘El Millón’ draw, which guarantees a new millionaire in the country with each draw, this time sent its million-euro check to Málaga. This option, unique for Spanish players, works simply: each bet automatically receives a unique code, and one of these codes inevitably wins, regardless of the main draw results.
This time, the main prize in the European draw went to a participant from Belgium. As a result, the jackpot for the next drawing, which will take place on Tuesday, June 30, will return to its starting value of 17 million euros. The winning combination on Friday evening was 4, 17, 25, 28, 44, and the ‘stars’ 5 and 11. The winning code in ‘El Millón’ is TGX72405.
The Euromillones lottery itself has a rich history. It was launched in February 2004 as a joint project of lottery organizations from Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. The idea was to create a game with a massive prize pool capable of attracting players from different countries. Over time, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Switzerland joined the initiative, forming a pool of nine participating countries. Drawings are held twice a week, and since 2024, the jackpot has been capped at an impressive 250 million euros.
