On Thursday morning, the Oviedo football club announced the termination of its collaboration with head coach Veljko Paunović. The decision was made just minutes before a scheduled training session at the El Requexón facilities. With this, Paunović becomes the first manager to lose his position in the current La Liga season.
The entire coaching staff is leaving the club along with the Serbian specialist. Paunović took over the team last year and managed to secure promotion to the top division of Spanish football. However, the season got off to a poor start: in eight matches, the team recorded only two wins and suffered six losses. This string of disappointing results forced the management to take action and change the direction of the club.
In an official statement, club representatives expressed their gratitude to Paunović and his assistants for their professionalism and dedication. The statement highlighted the achievement that saw the team return to the elite of Spanish football. This success will remain a significant milestone for the fans and the club’s history.
Currently, the club’s sporting department, managed by Grupo Pachuca, is considering various candidates for the vacant position. Among the most frequently mentioned possible successors is Luis Carrión, who already has experience at a high level. Meanwhile, players are waiting for further instructions regarding training, which had been scheduled for 10:30 in the morning.
The coaching change at Oviedo came as a surprise to many fans. Supporters are now closely following the situation and awaiting the official announcement of the new head coach.
