Despite ongoing treatment, renowned politician Borja Sémper has resumed his professional activities. His appearance at the leadership meeting of the Partido Popular in Alcalá de Henares was a significant event. Sémper, smiling openly, received warm words of encouragement from his party colleagues, demonstrating resilience and readiness to continue working.
The politician himself described this new stage as a “special start to the school year.” He shared on social media his reflections on how life’s challenges make one rethink priorities and focus on what matters most. This sentiment resonated with his party leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who publicly expressed his delight at his colleague’s return, stressing the significance of this moment for everyone.
Recall that until recently, Sémper’s last public appearance at work took place on July 22 at the Congreso de los Diputados. At that time, he chose to attend the vote in person, although remote participation was possible. Even then, announcing news about his health, he assured that he would gradually return to his duties as his condition allowed. To regain strength before this new phase, Borja Sémper, together with his partner, actress Bárbara Goenaga, spent several vacation days under the sun in Cádiz.
During this break, the politician devoted his time to a long-standing passion—reading. He admitted that he finally got around to the books that had been waiting on his bedside table for ages. Semper shared a list of what he had read, noting that he usually refrains from making literary recommendations, considering them too personal and pretentious. Among other works, he finished Roberto Saviano’s “Los valientes están solos”.
Special mention was given to a novel by his party colleague and Vice-President of the European Parliament, Esteban González Pons. Semper praised “El libro de los pecados,” calling it a pinnacle of irony, humor, and the author’s literary skill. He described his friend as an accomplished and indispensable prose writer whose works are essential for today’s readers.
During this challenging period, Semper receives invaluable support from his family, especially Bárbara Goenaga. Recently, the couple posted the same beach photograph on their social media accounts. The actress captioned the picture with a phrase in Basque, which translates as: “Knowing that every moment of life is a blessing.”
The politician spoke about the depth of his feelings and gratitude toward his life partner back in July, while congratulating her on her birthday. He recalled how he had once confidently promised to “slay dragons for her,” but later realized that she had become his protector. In a heartfelt message, Semper called Barbara his light, his guide, a mother, and beloved, expressing admiration for her generosity, talent, and tenderness, and hopefully promised that many more happy birthdays lay ahead for them.
