A Large Medieval Market to Open Soon in Andalusia at the Foot of the Sierra Morena

Fall in Love at First Sight: This City Is the Perfect Autumn Getaway

This city captivates with its beauty and unique atmosphere. Here, nature, history, and vibrant traditions come together. A one-of-a-kind cultural event is about to take place. The perfect spot for an unforgettable autumn getaway.

Nestled at the very foot of the Sierra Morena mountain range in the province of Jaén is a place where nature, history, and tradition come together in near-perfect harmony. This Andalusian town, washed by the waters of the Guadalquivir and surrounded by groves of holm oaks, cork trees, and pines, is part of a natural park. Here, the unspoiled landscape of Mediterranean forest has been preserved, providing a haven for diverse wildlife. In the coming weeks, its gardens and avenues will transform into the stage for a grand historical festival, set to attract travelers in search of unique experiences and cultural escapes this autumn.

We are talking about Andújar, located just 42 kilometers from the provincial capital. It is rightfully considered one of the most fascinating towns in the region. Its vast territory is part of the Sierras de Andújar Natural Park, where visitors can enjoy a mosaic of oaks, cork trees, Portuguese oaks, ash trees, and shrubs that define the authentic Mediterranean ecosystem. The town itself boasts a rich heritage: grand mansions, modern buildings, and traditional homes stand alongside landmarks such as the churches of Santa María, San Miguel, and San Bartolomé, the Palacio de los Cárdenas, the Clock Tower, and the historic thirteen-arch bridge over the Guadalquivir, believed to have Roman origins.

As part of the cultural and tourist program of the province of Jaén, a special event called “Living Castles and Battles: The Medieval Market” is scheduled to be held in Andújar from November 21 to 23, 2025. Over these days, Colón Park will be transformed into a themed space inspired by the “Legend of the Jew Levi,” offering visitors a captivating journey into the town’s medieval past and legendary heritage. The fair will feature artisan and gastronomic stalls, theatrical and musical performances, falconry and fire shows, children’s workshops, educational talks, and street parades. Special focus will be given to the coexistence of three cultures—Christian, Jewish, and Muslim—and the involvement of local associations dedicated to the history and heritage of Andújar.

Beyond the fair, Andújar offers travelers a unique blend of cultural and spiritual experiences. Its magnificent churches, monasteries, and museums are complemented by a deep veneration of the Virgen de la Cabeza, whose mountain sanctuary is the site of one of Andalusia’s most significant pilgrimages. Charming spots such as the Virgin’s altar on Calle Jesús María, legends like Christ of Providence or the story of the Jew Levi, urban sculptures, and corners like the Paseo de las Vistillas promenade add to an itinerary that continues at the table. Local cuisine centers on extra virgin olive oil and dishes like game, migas, ajoblanco, alboronía, or marinated olives—not to mention the famous flamenquín meat roll, which originated right here.
