Built back in 1911, this narrow-gauge line didn’t serve passengers, but transported materials and workers to the Capdella hydroelectric plant, one of the pioneering projects of its era. Today, the rails have long since been removed, but the perfectly level railway bed has turned into a magnificent hiking route that starts at over 2,200 meters near Estany Gento lake.
The route stretches for about 10 kilometers and, most notably, features virtually no elevation changes. It’s important to note that the funicular operates only during the summer season, usually from July to September, so plan your trip in advance.
From the upper station, simply follow the well-marked trail tracing the curves of the old railway all the way to the reservoir. For those seeking more active pursuits, alternatives exist. You can drive an off-road vehicle up to the Coll del Triador pass and hike the route in reverse. The most resilient adventurers can challenge themselves by climbing on foot via the steep Pigolo canal—this takes about an hour, but adds a true sporting challenge to the excursion.
