Preliminary investigation has been completed in Spain in the case involving Elche forward Rafa Mir. The footballer, who is on loan from Sevilla, has been charged with committing acts of sexual violence. The decision to open the case was made by the judge of the eighth investigating court of Llíria.
Court documents indicate there is evidence that goes beyond mere suspicion. The papers state that there are two episodes involving the use of physical force against a 21-year-old woman. According to investigators, the incidents took place at the footballer’s private residence after meeting at a nightclub in Valencia.
As part of the investigation, another athlete, Pablo H.G., has also been charged with related offenses. According to the investigation, both episodes occurred in the swimming pool and bathroom of Rafa Mir’s house.
The footballer was detained on the night of September 1 last year, shortly after a match at the Mestalla stadium. Following the arrest, his passport was confiscated and he was ordered to stay at least 500 meters away from the complainant.
The court hearing at which Rafa Mir is to give his testimony is scheduled for October 13. Lawyers have requested the possibility of remote participation in the proceedings. The court also set bail at €13,500.
At this stage, both parties have been able to present their positions and demands. After reviewing them, the judge will decide whether to commence the main trial. If the charges are confirmed, the footballer could face a substantive hearing in court.
