Officers of the Guardia Civil carried out a large-scale operation that dismantled an organized group involved in trafficking drugs between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. Eight people—six men and two women—were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the illegal distribution of controlled substances.
The investigation began after a suspicious package with a strong smell of marijuana was discovered at a post office. The parcel had come from the Aljarafe area in the province of Sevilla and was addressed to a recipient in Ibiza. This incident became the starting point for further actions by law enforcement.
How the criminal group operated
It was established that members of the network used legitimate courier companies to send parcels containing marijuana. On the mainland, the drugs were carefully packaged and handed over to transport firms, after which the shipments were sent to the island. In Ibiza, other members of the group received the parcels and distributed them among local buyers.
For several months, investigators monitored the suspects, tracking their movements and contacts. As a result, they were able to fully uncover the structure of the organization and the roles of each member. It was confirmed that the group operated with a high degree of coordination and secrecy.
Searches and seized evidence
After gathering sufficient evidence, Civil Guard officers conducted simultaneous searches at four residences—three located in the municipality of Umbrete (Seville) and another on Ibiza. Nearly 10 kilograms of dried marijuana and €17,500 in cash were found and seized during the operation.
In addition to drugs and cash, law enforcement uncovered various types of prohibited substances, a blank-firing pistol, and ammunition for short-barreled firearms. All items were documented and added to the case files.
Operation concluded and next steps
As a result of the operation, all eight suspects were detained and taken to the station for further legal proceedings. They have been charged with crimes related to drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization.
The case has been referred to the court, where the detainees will face charges for organizing the supply and distribution of marijuana on the island. This operation became one of the most high-profile efforts in recent times to combat the drug trade between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.
