A scandal has erupted in Albacete over a large-scale illegal party that took place on the outskirts of the municipality of Férez, right by the Cenajo reservoir. The festivities began on New Year’s Eve and lasted an entire week, ending with mass arrests. Police detained 63 people involved in organizing and holding the event, which, according to locals, turned a quiet corner into the epicenter of chaos.
Among those arrested were not only the organizers but also participants accused of causing disturbances and breaching public order. On the night of December 31, when a convoy of cars and vans tried to reach the party site, the situation spiraled out of control. A traffic jam formed in the Cordovilla area, and police attempts to stem the flow of guests led to clashes. Twenty people were detained specifically for taking part in these disturbances.
Organization and equipment
Law enforcement paid particular attention to the event’s technical setup. Sixteen heavy vehicles—trucks and vans—were used to build the party’s infrastructure, delivering powerful sound systems, generators, lighting equipment, and even temporary structures to the site. All of this was seized during the operation. According to police, such thorough preparation indicates a high level of organization and that the event was planned well in advance.
According to investigators, the organizers meticulously concealed the details of the rave to avoid police intervention. However, news of the large-scale event spread quickly, drawing hundreds of people from across the province to the reservoir. As a result, 38 people were detained for their direct involvement in preparing and hosting the illegal party.
Drugs and Wanted Persons
Five of those arrested are under investigation on suspicion of drug trafficking. Authorities found illegal substances as well as tools for their distribution. In addition, among the party guests were individuals wanted in connection with other cases. They were also handed over to law enforcement.
Police emphasize that events like these not only break the law, but also pose a risk to the health and safety of attendees. Fortunately, this time no serious incidents occurred, but the situation could have spiraled out of control at any moment. Local residents are frustrated that their area has become a stage for such a large and dangerous event.
Reaction and Consequences
Authorities in Albacete have already announced plans to tighten control over such gatherings. According to officials, these raves not only disturb residents’ peace, but also harm the environment. The Cenajo reservoir is a vital natural resource, and large crowds, vehicles, and litter could cause irreversible damage to the region’s ecosystem.
All those detained are currently awaiting a court decision. They face various charges, ranging from disturbing public order to organizing illegal mass events and drug-related offenses. The police are continuing their investigation to identify everyone involved in organizing and holding the party.
