Angelina Torres Vallbona, who in recent months held the title of Spain’s oldest woman, has passed away in Barcelona at the age of 112. She was born in March 1913 in the small Catalan town of Bellvís, but spent almost her entire life in the Catalan capital, living in a neighborhood near the famous Sagrada Família.
After the passing of other well-known long-lived individuals in Spain, Angelina became the country’s oldest woman. Her name was often mentioned in various rankings and publications dedicated to longevity. Since January 2025, she was officially recognized as the oldest resident of Spain, outliving her predecessors — María Branyas and Piedad Loriente Pérez.
Neighbors and acquaintances remember Angelina as a person with remarkable vitality and a strong character. Despite her advanced age, she retained a clear mind and a keen interest in the world around her. Her home in Barcelona was frequently visited not only by relatives but also by local officials wishing to personally congratulate her on her birthdays.
In her later years, Angelina became a symbol of resilience and optimism for many residents of Catalonia. Her life spanned a century of upheaval, wars, and achievements, and her personal story became part of the city’s collective memory. With her passing, Barcelona bids farewell to one of its most respected and renowned centenarians.
