This year, Barcelona once again becomes the center of attention in the media industry as the 72nd Ondas Awards Ceremony is held at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. These awards are among the most prestigious in Spanish radio, television, and advertising. Standing out among the winners are El Gran Wyoming (José Miguel Monzón) and Toni Clapés, both recognized for their ability to combine relevance and humor in their programs.
El Gran Wyoming, host of the popular show El Intermedio on La Sexta, will receive the award for Best Communicator. The jury praised his professionalism, courage, and talent for keeping viewers engaged with one of Spain’s longest-running TV formats. Toni Clapés, meanwhile, is being honored for his radio show Versió Rac1, which has brought thousands of listeners together for over two decades. The program began on Catalunya Ràdio and later moved to the private station Rac1, where it continues to delight audiences with fresh ideas and sparkling humor.
Awards for Contribution to Radio and Television
This year, the organizers decided to recognize not only individual achievements but also collective efforts within the radio industry. Special mention was given to the events of April 28, when, during a massive power outage, radio once again proved its indispensability to society. On that day, radio stations became the only source of information for millions of Spaniards, highlighting the enduring importance of this medium.
The ceremony will be hosted by renowned journalist Mara Torres, with Jordi Rosell directing the event. The evening’s program will include musical performances by Pastora Soler and the band Viva Suecia, as well as comedic acts from Juan Carlos Ortega and Carolina Iglesias, host of Ni Tan Bien, joined by regular cast members Laura Márquez and Charlie Pee. In total, 26 awards will be presented, selected from 540 submissions across 18 countries.
Stars and New Talent Among the Winners
This year’s honorees include not only El Gran Wyoming and Toni Clapés. The Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Paco Lobatón, known for the TVE program Quién sabe dónde, which aired from 1992 to 1998. The jury highlighted his contribution to socially significant projects and his longstanding work in news and parliamentary journalism.
Among the winners is also journalist Isaías Lafuente, recognized for his 40-year career and his work on the program La Ventana on Cadena SER. Other winners include the podcast Se llamaba como yo, produced by De eso no se habla and EITB Media, and the radio project Un libro una hora, named Best Radio Format of the Year.
Top Projects in Television and Music
In the television category, awards went to the series Celeste from Movistar Plus+, named Best Comedy, as well as the dramas Querer (Movistar Plus+) and Pubertat (HBO Max and 3Cat), which shared the Best Drama Series award. Alejandra Herranz from RTVE was named Best TV Host, and the Best Regional Project award will go to the program El campo es nuestro on Aragón TV.
In the music section of the Ondas 2025 ceremony, Pastora Soler was honored for her contribution to music, with Valeria Castro and Guitarricadelafuente recognized as the year’s biggest musical discoveries. The ceremony will be broadcast from 20:00 on Cadena SER and SER Catalunya, as well as via the Premios Ondas and SER Catalunya social media channels.
