In the heart of the Redes Biosphere Reserve, a new spot has emerged that has quickly won over fans of rural tourism and motorhome travel. The municipal RV complex in Sobrescobio has become a true find for those seeking seclusion without giving up modern comforts. It will be temporarily closed to visitors from November 4 to 20, inclusive.
Success from day one
The project’s popularity was overwhelming. After opening on June 25, the complex was fully booked just a few days later, and the waiting list stayed full throughout most of the summer season. Its strategic location at the entrance to the famous Ruta del Alba trail cemented Sobrescobio as a key spot for outdoor enthusiasts in the foothills of Picos de Europa. The local municipality launched the initiative, but management for the next five years has been handed over to the Catalan company Camaleón Rural Camp. Spanning nearly 12,000 square meters, the site features 53 plots, 39 of which are designated for motorhomes, campers, and tents. The complex includes three buildings seamlessly integrated into the landscape: a reception with a shop, a bar-restaurant, and a sanitary block with showers and laundry facilities.
Gastronomy and local flavor
The local bar-restaurant welcomes not only hotel guests but everyone. Here, you can discover traditional Asturian cuisine as well as simpler dishes. The menu features the famous cachopos, artisanal cheeses, and homemade meals prepared with farm-fresh ingredients. Dishes are served with cider or local beer. There’s also a small shop at the complex, where guests can buy honey, cured meats, and canned goods from local producers, supporting the local economy in the process. On weekends, they offer a set lunch for 22 euros, which was recently updated. It includes a tortilla with chorizo as a starter, two options for the first course—the traditional callos or an autumn salad with cecina, cheese, walnuts, and apple—as well as main courses: pork ribs with apple or lamb stew. For dessert, homemade pastries are served, and the price includes coffee, bread, water, wine, or cider.
Sustainability philosophy
The project is run by a young team based in the neighboring village of Villamorey, led by Émilie Pasquet. Their approach is built on a model of responsible tourism that forges a connection between the traveler, the environment, and the local culture. The main goal is to offer comfortable and accessible accommodation for everyone, including people with reduced mobility, in a unique location that is part of the Redes Biosphere Reserve. This philosophy is reflected in their friendly service, commitment to sustainability, and close ties with the local community. Every detail is thoughtfully designed to let visitors experience authentic Asturias and respect its natural treasures.
Affordable comfort
Spacious plots of over 50 square meters are designed for motorhomes up to eight meters long or large family tents with a car; all come with electricity hookups. Smaller plots, measuring 5×5 meters, are perfect for medium tents or compact campervans. Prices vary by season: in the low season, a large plot costs 19 euros per night, rising to 24 euros in the high season. Small plots range from 14 to 19 euros. You can also order breakfast for 5.50 euros or a full meal for 22 euros. These rates, combined with high-quality infrastructure and a unique location, make the municipal complex in Sobrescobio one of the best value-for-money options in Asturias’s rural tourism sector. To get here from Oviedo, take the AS-17 towards Langreo, then head towards Rioseco. From there, follow signs to Villamorei, where a special sign will lead you directly to the site. The trip takes about an hour through scenic mountains, meadows, and forests.
