In San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria), the preliminary investigation into a high-profile case involving former players of the Madrid club’s youth team has been completed. The court has ordered a public trial for Raúl Asensio and three other footballers accused of sharing intimate videos without the participants’ consent. One of the girls was a minor at the time of the incident.
The judge ordered Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez, and Andrés García to post bail of 20,000 euros each, while Asensio must pay 15,000 euros. This difference is due to the fact that the first three are charged not only with sharing the videos but also with recording them without the girls’ permission. The case has now been referred to the criminal court in Las Palmas, where a hearing date will be set.
The incident occurred in the summer of 2023 at a beach club in Amadores, on the southern part of the island. Three footballers met two girls there, one of whom was 16 years old. In a private area of the club, relationships developed, while Asensio was by the pool and did not participate. According to the victims, the young men secretly recorded what happened and later sent the videos through a messenger app, despite the girls’ requests to delete the material.
Asensio became involved later, when one of the videos was forwarded to him and he showed it to an acquaintance, knowing it had been filmed without the girls’ consent. This is supported by a message found on his phone, in which he admits to sharing the video with another person.
The prosecution is seeking four years and seven months in prison for Ruiz, Rodríguez, and García, and two and a half years for Asensio. The first three are charged with distributing child pornography and invasion of privacy, while Asensio faces two counts of violating the right to privacy.
Both victims are participating in the case. The girl, who was a minor, is accusing all four defendants, while her friend dropped charges against Asensio after he compensated her and issued a written apology, admitting his wrongdoing.
